More than a million cancer patients visit Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan each year to seek world-renowned care. And Brittany Lue, CPH ’18, helps the most vulnerable among them. As a clinical research coordinator working in pediatrics, Brittany oversees clinical trials for children with rare and complex brain cancers, often offering the last measure of hope to halt aggressive diseases.

Temple transformation. Brittany excelled in the sciences and ran track and field, which fostered her interest in movement and the human body. She knew she wanted a career helping people through healthcare and selected Temple for kinesiology. During an undergraduate internship with healthcare company Gauze, she was exposed to medical research for the first time and realized its potential to impact patients across the world.

As COVID-19 hit and unrest roiled the country in 2020, Brittany was further motivated to be a force for good and enrolled in a master’s in public health program at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, with a concentration in health policy and management. After achieving a 4.0 GPA and graduating summa cum laude, she quickly landed a job at Sloan Kettering.

An eye for detail. Brittany is now responsible for ensuring the scientific integrity of clinical trials, closely tracking patient visits and other procedures to ensure everything goes according to protocol. It is often difficult to witness when treatments are unsuccessful but rewarding when they are, and Brittany keeps the center’s long-term goal close to her heart: “To end cancer for life.”

Brittany is giving back to the next generation of healthcare professionals, serving on Temple’s Barnett College of Public Health Alumni Association Board, where she strengthens alumni engagement and mentors current students. She also serves on the University of Bridgeport’s master’s in public health curriculum committee, regularly reviewing and strengthening the program’s educational offerings.

“Sometimes you have patients who are very sickly, and it’s hard. But I try to think about all of the other patients that still need us. Our mission is to end cancer for life, and sometimes the flower you’re watering today isn’t going to blossom overnight. But it will blossom in due time.”
